Big 4 companies is a nickname given to the top 4 accounting firms of the world that include Delloite, PwC, EY, and KPMG. These companies are the biggest companies in the world in terms of Accounting services. All these companies have their branches in India and in India in top metropolitan cities. The core activities in which these firms deal in are Advisory, Taxation, Assurance, and Actuarial services. They are constantly growing their branches in India and constantly generating thousands of jobs for Indian professionals. Although, there is no particular factor on which we can rank these firms still in terms of revenue Deloitte, holds first place. It was founded by William Welch Deloitte in the year 1845 in London. It provides 6 major services to its clients that are- audit, consulting, financial advisory, risk advisory, tax, and legal services. PwC acquires the second place among these big 4 companies and also it ranks as the second-largest professional service network in the world. It has its headquarters in London and operates in 157 countries across the globe in 742 locations with a workforce of around 2,76,000 people. In India, the company operates from its 20 offices in 7 cities (Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Pune). The company earned a total of around $42.4 Billion as revenue globally, the major proportion of this revenue came from the Assurance department followed by Advisory and Tax.
3. Ernst & Young
Ernst & Young, best known as EY is one of the largest professional service firms, it was founded in 1989 with a merger of 2 accounting firms Ernst & Whinney and Arthur Young & Co and that’s how the company got its name. EY deals with all major kinds of professional services like its other fellow firms such as Assurance, tax, Advisory, Legal, etc. It operates its business from around 150 countries with a team of 2,70,000 employees worldwide. EY has recognized as the best place to work in 2016 as per REAX (Russian Ratings Agency).
KPMG (Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler) is a multinational professional service company which has its operations in more than 147 countries in the world. The total workforce comprises around 2,20,000 employees working in three main basic lines Financial Audit, Tax, and Advisory which is further divided into various service and sub-service groups. In India, KPMG operates from its about 13 offices in 10 cities Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, Kochi, Chandigarh, and Ahmedabad. The Indian workforce comprises of around 4800 employees in different service lines within the country.
